One of my favorite things about being a photographer is when I'm asked to photograph a younger sibling of a former senior. It's such an honor to me that a family trusts me so much and has appreciated my work so much that they want me to capture their next child. I have several families that we have 'run out of kids' and I truly miss seeing those families!
I was privileged to photograph Zach's sister, Grace, 2 years ago as a Class of 2018 senior. At the time their sweet dog, Winnie, was just a pup. Now she's turned into such a sweet dog and I loved that she was included in both of their sessions.
I grew up on a farm and I've often joked that when I left for college what I missed most were all the animals at the farm. Including your pet in your senior portrait is such a great way to remember them when you aren't home with them every day and many of my former seniors have a picture of them with their pet in their dorm room.
The Class of 2020 is showing how strong, how brave and how resilient they are. My heart hurts for this class. They've worked so hard and gone through so much. Over the next few weeks and months I've been working on several blog posts to showcase each one of these amazing seniors. During our sessions we put together a video and they share some great memories and insight so be sure to watch their Senior Spotlight video at the end.
But I've also reached out to each of my seniors to hear what they are feeling right now with the world in chaos and their traditions changing. I'm so excited to share with you what they've shared with me.
What are you missing most at this time?
Zach: Having others to lean on and the flexibility to do what I want without stringent duties to worry about.
What are you most proud of accomplishing in High School?
Zach: Earning at least a 3 out of 5 on half a dozen AP tests.
What are you most looking forward too?
Zach: Being able to learn about a career that compels me to explore it further in a setting conducive to that exploration.
What advice would you give to underclassmen?
Zach: Use your time wisely: even if you think you’re on top of your game, you have to take steps to ensure you stay ahead of the curve if things change drastically.
Anything else you'd like to share?
Zach: This year has truly been extraordinary thanks to the pandemic shutdown, but that only means there will be more of a story to share in the future!
Thank you Zach for allowing me to capture your senior portraits. You are such a unique person and you have an incredibly bright future ahead of you. Thank you for sharing your views of the world and your excitement for the future. Congratulations on your Graduation! Wishing you all of the best in the future.
